History and manufacturing process

  Friends for life!

Since 2013, Margotte Tournicote has been selling its soft toys and childcare articles, manufactured in France, first in partner workshops, then, in 2017, in its own workshop in Caen, Normandy. This is done with an emphasis on 'Made in France' and excellent craftsmanship: shaping the faces of the soft toys with embroidery thread. However, the primary desire of its creator was to offer a customizable soft toy, where the customer became the author of the manufacturing by assembling the different elements themselves to create their ideal soft toy: this is how the soft toy configurator was born.

Driven by these three fundamental principles, Margotte Tournicote and its Made in France soft toys, with their timeless style imbued with French elegance, travel (Paris, Cologne, Tokyo...); meet other brands like Piccolo or Saint-James for highly appreciated collaborations and capsule collections; and export to the United States and Japan.

Today, after a busy year in 2019, a new chapter in Margotte Tournicote's history is turning with a change of ownership and production location. However, the same desire remains to preserve unique artisanal know-how and to create beautiful soft toys to accompany our children in their first years of life.

For this new chapter, Margotte Tournicote returns to its first inspirations with the L'original collection. This collection combines our star rabbit and its most popular fabrics with new, trendier patterns and a unique, more ergonomic body shape. All this is highlighted in a setting with vintage accents...

Artisanal know-how for the happiness of toddlers!

With the concern to offer you quality articles, our small soft toys, now manufactured in Lisieux in Normandy, are entirely made of materials specially designed for childcare, making them compliant with current European and French regulations (EN71).

The materials we use are Oeko-Tex® 100 certified, which means that no harmful substances to health or the environment are detectable throughout their entire life cycle.

While the majority of items on the market are machine-embroidered or printed, the faces of our soft toys are created with a needle and embroidery thread. This meticulous technique gives our soft toys a unique expression, giving each one a story and a true personality. Some will have shy smiles, while others will have a mischievous look for no real reason, except the magic of handmade.

A dozen machine assemblies are also required. This makes the whole much stronger than the requirements of current French and international regulations.

A beautiful cuddly toy is hard work!

How much does it cost?

Did you know?

Manufacturing in France comes at a price! That's for sure... But it's the price of a know-how that is unfortunately being lost. Today in our country, 1 plush toy is sold every 2 seconds, but less than 1 in 100 is manufactured there.

In the case of imports, it is not uncommon for the price of materials and labor to be divided by ten. Imagine that hidden in the price of products manufactured thousands of kilometers away are the costs of a month of container shipping, taxes, and import logistics.

And at the same time, how can you recognize a plush toy made in France, when our country is one of the only ones in the world where the country of manufacture is not mandatory on the label? What must be written on it is the address of the consumer service, which can be located in France, just like the brand, while the production site is abroad. So, if it's not written 'fabriqué en France' (made in France) in full letters, it's not made in France.

For a cuddly toy made in France by Margotte Tournicote:
